Art Exhibit to Celebrate Dia De La Raza and Hispanic Heritage Month

Art Exhibit to Celebrate Dia De La Raza and Hispanic Heritage Month
By Sofia Ramos October 4, 2000
Chicano/Hispano Student Affairs proudly announces the first Hispano student, faculty, staff art exhibit. You are invited to attend the exhibit unveiling reception on Thursday, Oct. 5, from 4-6 p.m. at the Adalberto Guerrero Resource Center at the University of Arizona, Economics building room 211.
This exhibit is unique because it is a tribute to students, alumni and the tapestry of our culture. Entitled "Ondas de la communidad," it includes depictions of the struggles of Hispanos and the pride of Chicanismo. The exhibit will be displayed throughout the month of October.
The exhibit is fortunate to include Tucson greats David Tineo , Alfred Quiroz, Juan Enriquez, Manu, John Salgado, Ceci Garcia, and Gonzalo Espinosa. The exhibit will also features up and coming UA student Natalie J. Willemsen from Guatemala displaying "The Ugly Bastard" about a man who was attacking women on campus, and "The Trip to the Bank" about random harassment of Guatemalans by the military.
Alfred Quiroz's "English Rule" depicts the plight of Spanish speaking students in Tucson who were punished and hit for speaking Spanish in school. David Tineo's "Self Portrait" and "La Llorona" are also part of the exhibit. Ceci Garcia's "Upon Santo Nino's Return from the Prisons of Ireland, the U.S. and Mexico Borderland, He Had a Different Face" is dedicated to the faces of our children who have suffered and been victims of violence. Gonzalo Espinosa contributed two pieces to the exhibit. "El Ausenica de tu Humedad, In the Absence of Your Humidity" and "Atado a Ti, Attached to Your Being."
